The special feature of Luecky is that new cloze tests can be written with your well known text processing application (e.g. Microsoft Word, OpenOffice.org Writer). This way the already shipped cloze tests can easily be expanded.
First, start your familiar text processing application and create a new text.
Write the text as usually. Just the blanks have to be written with a special character sequence. This is necessary for Luecky that it is able to recognize the blanks.
The character sequence for a blank:
_(correct word;visible word)
The “visible word” is shown after the blank and the “correct word” is used by Luecky to check the input. In the next lines are some examples for blanks:
View in the text processing application | View in Luecky |
---|---|
_(correct word;visible word) | _ (visible word) |
The brown _(dog;DOG) always barks loudly. | The brown _ (DOG) always barks loudly. |
The brown _(dog;) always barks loudly. | The brown _ always barks loudly. |
The brown dog _(;,) always barks loudly. | The brown dog _ (,) always barks loudly. |
The last step is to save the document in the Rich Text Format (RTF) 1). A detailed description how the document can be saved follows.
Congratulations. You have created a new cloze test. Now you can start Luecky and open the newly created cloze test.
1) The Rich Text Format cannot handle all the features a modern text processing application provides. Therefore, specific formatting in the document might not be shown correct in Luecky.
